FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 10
By John Falabella
JUST ME VENTING
I am a little surprised and disappointed in the play of some of these NFL teams this season. Many teams are inconsistent… The 49ers were a preseason favorite to make the Super Bowl, and they played great on MNF in week 10, showing why they were a preseason favorite, but they laid an egg last week and in several games this season. In week 10 they showed passion, had a great game plan, and had an identity of toughness.
The Buffalo Bills have been one of the NFL’s best teams, but they laid an egg and scored only 6 points against the Jaguars, and then they followed that up with 45 points against the Jets. I hope to see a more consistent play from these top teams during the second half of the season.
SURPRISES
Miami Dolphins: Another one of those inconsistent teams came out to play on Thursday and buried the Ravens in Miami. Look for them to put things together down the stretch.
Cam Newton – It was nice to see Cam Newton back in that Carolina powder blue and white uniform and semi leading the Panthers to victory. He has lost a step, but he is still good at what he does.
Rhamondre Stevenson – The 4th round pick out of Oklahoma stepped in for Damian Harris and shined on Sunday. He went for 100 yards on 20 carries plus 2 TDs. Harris had 5 games in a row with a TD before this weekend, and Stevenson looked just as good.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Lamar Jackson – Lamar Jackson is a great athlete, but he is far from perfect as a passing QB… On Thursday, he was yelling at his team, but he was part of the problem himself.
Mike Vrabel – C’mon coach, let Adrian Peterson loose!! We all want to see it!!!!
Odell Beckham, Jr – Says he wanted to help the Browns win the Super Bowl, but he left town while they were in the playoff hunt. His highly anticipated debut was even more interesting when Robert Woods tore his ACL. I know Odell doesn’t know the playbook yet but… his debut was, shall I say…DISAPPOINTING!!!

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 9
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 9
By John Falabella
SURPRISES
Josh Johnson – This guy has been around forever, dropped from nearly every team in the league, but when he took the field on Thursday, he looked good and almost brought the Jets all the way back.
Arizona Cardinals – No Kyler, No D-Hop, Missing starting offensive linemen… No problem! The Cardinals dominated the 49ers in Santa Clara and it wasn’t close. The Cardinals played like a first-place team and the 49ers played like a team that was ready for the offseason (some of them, not all)
James Conner – Speaking of the Cardinals, Conner and his three touchdowns were one of the main reasons they were able to beat the 49ers. Conner originally was the replacement for Le’Veon Bell in Pittsburgh and looked the part, but over the past two seasons, he became a pretty ordinary player. Still, on Sunday, he looked like the player from three seasons ago.
Tennessee Titans – The whole league thought that when the Titans lost Derrick Henry that they had lost their identity, but Mike Vrabel had the team believing in the mission. Henry has a chance to come back for the end of the season or the playoffs and the team will be in the hunt with or without him.
Adrian Peterson – Adrian Peterson did not have a great game on Sunday, but he did score a touchdown, his 125th of his career. He may just be the bandaid that the Titans need until Henry returns.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Matthew Stafford – Stafford has looked good this season, but he did not look good on Sunday. In fact, he looked like he was back in Detroit at the end of a bad season. Hopefully, he gets back on track for next week.
Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys were upset by the Broncos on Sunday, and it looked like the team had an all-night drinking party with Billy Bob and Johnny Moxon.
Dak Prescott – After Cooper Rush led the Cowboys to victory the week before, it looked like the Cowboys could not be stopped but they came crashing back to earth Sunday when they got upset by the 3-5 Broncos..
Buffalo Bills – Never did I ever think the Bills would lose to the lowly Jaguars… Like they say, anyone can be beat on “Any Given Sunday”

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 8
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 8
By John Falabella
SURPRISES
Michael Carter – The Jets rookie RB touched the ball over 20 times for the first time of his career, and he proved that he was a capable runner as well as a receiver as the Jets upset the Bengals on Sunday. Carter finished the day with 24 touches, 172 yards, and a TD
Jimmy Garoppolo: Jimmy is in, Jimmy hurt, Jimmy is out, repeat… Jimmy played well in this one throwing for 322 yards while rushing for 2 TDs and the 49ers won, but it will be a surprise if Jimmy is back with the 49ers next year (unless they win the Super Bowl).
Cooper Rush – Regular season throws for Cooper Rush before Sunday: 3… He threw those three passes during the 2017 season… I think it was a surprise to all of us that he dropped back 40 times for 325 yards and 2 TDs on Sunday night and that the Cowboys won but they did… Dak is scheduled to be back next week, but they didn’t want to “RUSH” him back this past Sunday and I bet the Cowboys and their fans can sleep a little easier knowing that their backup is capable of winning a game.
Geno Smith – Had pinpoint accuracy for once, hitting on 20 of 24 passes. He also threw two TDs and ran for another. Smith hadn’t had a game this good since the last game of the 2015 season so this was a big surprise.
Mike White: Was drafted in 2018 but had not played in a game until last week. This week he threw for 405 yards and 3 TDs… Zach Wilson has yet to have a 400-yard game.
Randall Cobb: He only had 3 catches for 15 yards, but two of them were touchdowns!
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Robby Anderson – After having over 1,000 yards in 2020, Anderson is on pace for 434 yards this season and had 0 catches on 1 target in week 8… ouch!
A.J. Green – After Thursday Nights game, I could imagine A.J. Green’s wife singing him the song “Total Eclipse of the Heart”… “every now and then I fall apart…. TURN AROUND BRIGHT EYES!”
J.J. Watt: People talk about karma… If you saw J.J. Watt talking crap on the sideline a week or so ago… Well, he won’t be talking smack to anyone for a while because he is out for the season… again.
Derrick Henry: Last week, I said he was “not human” this week, he proved that he was and he will be out for a while. If he doesn’t play another snap this season, he will finish with 937 yards while having 2,027 last season. My preseason article said RBs that have rushed for 2000 yards in a season averaged 800 fewer yards the following season, and Derrick Henry (assuming he does not play anymore) would finish with 1,090 fewer yards than he did in 2020.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 7
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 7
By – John Falabella
SURPRISES
Derrick Henry – In my preseason article, I expected some sort of decline from Henry this season after putting up 2000 yards last season and tons of touches over the last three years. When I wrote the article, I was under the assumption that Derrick Henry was human… He is not… and apparently, there are extraterrestrials playing in the NFL… that is surprising!
D’Ernest Johnson – With Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt out, D’Ernest Johnson stepped right in and stole the show with 24 touches for 168 yards and a TD. The surprising part is that he was working with Case Keenum since Baker Mayfield was also out versus a stout Denver Defense.
Mike White – The backup QB for the Jets was forced into the game when Zach Wilson got injured on Sunday. The surprising part was that the 2018 5th round pick out of Western Kentucky looked better than Wilson, the #2 overall pick out of BYU.
Cincinnati Bengals – The Bengals won on Sunday to take over First Place in the AFC North… the surprising part is that they went into Baltimore to do it and not just that… they dominated the Ravens and it wasn’t even close.
Detroit Lions – The Lions pulled out all the stops on Sunday and didn’t win… the surprising part was that they almost knocked off the Rams in Jared Goff’s return to LA.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
The Chiefs/Andy Reid/Patrick Mahomes – The Chiefs seem to make this section of my article every week… but on Sunday, in what should have been one of the best games of the week, was nothing but a disappointment. The Chiefs are starting to look like that “Dream Team” they had in Philadelphia.
Calvin Ridley – After sitting out the London game, Calvin Ridley bounced back with 10 targets on Sunday. The disappointing part is that he only caught 4 and only had 26 yards. He did score a touchdown, but the Ryan–Ridley connection should be more productive. Ridley has yet to eclipse 100 yards in a game this season.
Chris Broussard – Yes, Chris Broussard, the FOX host formerly of ESPN, he made a comment about the Buffalo Bills not converting on 4th down because PRO-BOWL tackle Taylor Lewan was not in the game… even though he plays for the other team. “Come’on Man” that comment was “Jacked up” (Credit to ESPN for those quotes) but FOX SPORTS, all I do is watch football on Sundays, so if you need someone to get it right, I’m available.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 6
SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 6
By John Falabella
SURPRISES
Adam Thielen – Caught 11 balls for 126 yards and a TD. His first game over 100 yards this season and his first since Week 11 of last season.
Donovan Peoples-Jones – 101 yards and 2 TDs! I did not see that coming.
Raiders Offense without their former head coach (Resigned) – The Raiders looked better with Rich Bisaccia than the former coach, which is impressive because they were playing in Denver. This location has always given the Raiders problems.
Kenyan Drake – Speaking of the Raiders – Kenyan Drake, who has done nothing in weeks, scored 2 Touchdowns on 6 touches in Week 6.
Jaylen Waddle – He finally looked like a 6th overall pick with 70 yards on 10 catches (13 targets) and 70 yards. Waddle was targeted on more than 25% of Tua’s passes.
Antonio Brown – Has proven week in and week out that he has not lost a step at all. He is on pace for over 1,300 yards this season.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Miami Dolphins – A playoff team last year lost to the Jaguars, who had a 20 game losing streak. The Dolphins now sit at 1-5 and in last place in the AFC East.
Cleveland Browns – Lost to Arizona to fall to 3-3… Is Cleveland becoming Cleveland again?
Sam Darnold – After rushing for 5 TDs the first four weeks, Sam Darnold still did not realize that he is a mobile QB and is much more effective when he runs.
Odell Beckham, Jr. – Odell had his best game of the season on Sunday… 5 catches for 79 yards.
Robert Woods – After a breakout game in Week 5 Robert Woods slipped to 2 catches and 31 yards in Week 6.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 5
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 5
By John Falabella
SURPRISES
Kyle Pitts – I am not surprised that Kyle Pitts had 9 catches for 119 yards and a TD this past Sunday but I am surprised that it took the Falcons this long to get him involved.
Mike Williams – He has over 100 yards more than Keenan Allen and 5 more TDs this season!
THE TOP 5 FANTASY WRs – Mike Williams, Cooper Kupp, Deebo Samuel, Tyreek Hill, Cordarelle Patterson. If this doesn’t surprise you, nothing will. Will this list look normal by the end of the season?
David Njoku – There was a David Njoku sighting in Los Angeles on Sunday… After starting the season with 7 catches and 101 yards over his first three games, he put up 7 catches for 149 yards and TD. This was the first time in his career that he had a 100 yard game.
Derrick Henry – Already has 640 rushing yards this season. That is 128 yards/game. He averaged 126.7/game last season so there has been no drop off. With the 17th game this year he is on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s single season record of 2,105 (Henry is on pace for 2,176).
Josh Allen – The Bills took on the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes on Sunday Night. Josh Allen was the best QB on the field, and to be honest, it wasn’t that close.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Darren Waller – Over his last 4 games he has only 214 yards and 1 TD, have the defenses caught up?
AJ Brown – With Julio Jones out he only had 3 catches on 8 targets for 38 yards. He has yet to crack 50 yards in a game this season.
Brandon Aiyuk – With the 49ers struggling to move the ball Aiyuk has spent more time on the sideline than in the game. His best game thus far has been 4 catches for 37 yards.
Damien Harris – He fumbled again, this time on the goal line, and he is in danger of falling into the Patriots dog house like Laurence Maroney once did.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 4
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 4
BY: JOHN FALABELLA
SURPRISES
Sam Darnold – I left my glasses at home on Sunday so when I was watching the game I thought Christian McCaffrey had two rushing touchdowns but it was actually Sam Darnold. Darnold has 5 rushing TDs this season while he had only 5 his first three years in the league.
Cordarrelle Patterson – Was a first round pick in 2013 but he is finally playing like it. He is on pace for about 1,500 total yards this season and…21 Touchdowns?!? Yes, he has 5 in four games.
Mac Jones – the 15th overall pick in the 2021 Draft and the fifth QB off the board is actually playing the best out of all of them and almost upstaged Tom Brady in his return to New England.
New York Jets – Did the Jets really upset the Titans? Julio Jones and AJ Brown were out but they still should have beaten the Jets.
Jalen Hurts – threw for over 200 yards in the first half and 387 for the game this past Sunday against the Chiefs.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Chiefs Offense(Offensive line) – Patrick Mahomes looks like Carson Wentz last year running for his life on each play
Washington efense – That’s right… They aren’t playing any D.
Flag on the Play – The Officials flagged Khalil Mack and Chase Young on Sunday for Roughing the Passer but both were Phantom calls. The league has gotten safer, which is good, but those were ridiculous.
Lion’s Management – Did they really sign Dan Campbell to a 6 year contract… he might not make it to the sixth game.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 3
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 3
BY: JOHN FALABELLA
SURPRISES
Kendrick Bourne – He is proving he was worth the contract that he was given by the Patriots as he toed the line for a touchdown this past Sunday.
Zach Ertz – His football career in Philly a few weeks ago appeared to be dead but he rose from the ashes to post 4 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps the Eagles will continue to use him. He still appears to be very capable.
Davante Adams – Performed as he did in 2020… 12 catches for 132 yards on 18 targets and a TD. Adams and Rodgers were back in form this past Sunday.
Alexander Mattison – Mattison put up 112 rushing yards on 26 attempts and 59 yards on 6 catches in place of Dalvin Cook in week 3. If I am him, I am wondering why I don’t play more… especially in this 17 week format.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Patrick Mahomes – Mahomes and the Chiefs may be going through a Super Bowl hangover, he threw 2 interceptions last week and has three in three games. He only threw 7 all of last season.
Alvin Kamara – 108 total yards is great… 27 touches is also great but I would normally expect more than 4 yards per touch from Kamara.
Calvin Ridley – Is averaging about 10 targets per game but only 58 yards… and Atlanta hired an offensive coordinator as head coach. It is a bad scheme or do they miss Julio Jones?
Trevor Lawrence – Wake me up when he starts to look like a starting NFL Quarterback. I thought the number one overall pick would display a stronger arm than he has thus far.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 2
SURPRISES
Quarterback Daniel Jones – Ran for 95 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night while Saquon Barkley has 83 on the season.
Derrick Henry – Received 41 touches on Sunday and the Titans won and foundan identity. That is great news for fantasy owners but bad news for Derrick Henry. They can’t possibly expect him to touch the ball 30 times a game for 17 weeks plus the playoffs, can they?
Rob Gronkowski – Has 4 touchdown catches in 2 games. He is on pace for 34! I would say 15 touchdowns for this season is more of a real projection at this point. Apparently he and Brady are going for the all-time record for QB/Receiver combination. The record is held by Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison with 114.
Pittsburgh Steelers – Lost to the Raiders at home
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Saquon Barkley – On Thursday he looked like Frank Gore…Frank Gore at the end.
Kenyan Drake – With Josh Jacobs out in week 2 he only got 11 touches while in week one he got 15 touches.
Jonathan Taylor – He is currently averaging 3.3 yards/carry on 16 touches per game.
AJ Brown – Is averaging 46 yards/game thus far while Julio Jones is averaging 78.
Davante Adams – Two games played – zero touchdowns.
New Orleans Saints – After looking great in week one they lost to Carolina and only scored 7 points.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS- WEEK 1
FANTASY FOOTBALL SURPRISES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS – WEEK 1
By: John Falabella
SURPRISES
Elijah Mitchell – Trey Sermon was a healthy scratch and Eli Mitchell put on a show by gaining over 100 yards. Raheem Mostert is out for the season so he may be in line for more carries. Hasty and Sermon could have other ideas about that.
Teddy Bridgewater – In his first game with the Broncos Bridgewater put up excellent numbers while losing one of his top receivers in Jerry Jeudy. He is a solid quarterback but, don’t be fooled, he is just a game manager… a winning caliber game manager.
Mark Ingram – 26 carries, only 85 yards, but 26 carries. That is a surprise for sure as he only had 72 carries all of last season.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
Aaron Rodgers – Yes, Aaron Rodgers was a disappointment in week one but let’s chalk that up to a lack of preseason. He should be better moving forward.
Ezekiel Elliott – Elliott was on the field a lot but Tony Pollard out produced him in week one.
Aaron Jones – 9 Yards? That’s it?
Derrick Henry – Ran for 58 yards on 17 carries in week one. Last season he only had three games that he ran for less than 75 while on his way to a 2000 yard season. The Titans looked like they lacked an identity in week one.
