Fantasy Football 2021 draft QB rankings
We are just over a week away from Super Bowl LV, where the Kansas City Chiefs go for the repeat against the surging Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Once the clock strikes 0:00 on Super Bowl Sunday, we are officially all-in on the 2021 fantasy football season.
That’s right, and fantasy die-hards can stop talking about how they coulda, woulda, shoulda won their league title and focus on their 2021 fantasy football draft boards.
With that in mind, let’s cut to the chase and take a look at Marc Caviglia’s early 2021 fantasy football top-5 quarterback rankings. Scoring is passed on 4 points per TD pass, 6 points per TD run, 1 point for 25 passing yards, and all turnovers are negative 2 points.
1. Josh Allen (Bills)
In my opinion, Allen is the top tier fantasy quarterback entering 2021. He’s revolutionized his game as a passing quarterback and continues to make plays with his legs. Josh Allen finished with 4,544 passing yards, 421 rushing yards, and 46 total touchdowns (37 passing, 8 rushing, 1 receiving.) While his 16 turnovers (10 interceptions, 6 fumbles) can be improved, fantasy owners can expect at least a similar season from the budding superstar. Allen is a playmaker and a lock to hit at least 20 fantasy football points most weeks.
2. Kyler Murray (Cardinals)
Dual-threat quarterbacks have taken over the NFL and fantasy football alike, and Murray very well could be the best one. He has solidified himself as a top tier fantasy performer, as evident by his 23.7 fantasy points per game (5th at the QB position.) Entering just his third NFL season, I expect Murray to get better as a passer while continuing to make big plays with his feet. His 819 rushing yards led all QBs, and his 11 rushing TDS ranked second behind Cam Newton. Kyler Murray will be on a lot of championship rosters again this year.
3. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs)
Make no mistake, Mahomes is the top NFL quarterback and is in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall fantasy quarterback. His 25 fantasy points per game ranked first among signal-callers that played more than five games, and his 4,740 passing yards were 2nd in the NFL. The only reason why I don’t rank Mahomes at the top of my fantasy football draft board is that the Chiefs usually get conservative when they have a big lead, and this hinders Patrick Mahomes‘ ability to maximize his fantasy points per game. Still, the baby GOAT is a top tier QB.
4. Dak Prescott (Cowboys)
I might take a lot of flack for this because I am excluding some high volume point getters like Lamar Jackson (Ravens), DeShaun Watson (Texans), and Russell Wilson (Seahawks) from this list, but Prescott is set up to have a massive year in Dallas. Before a Week 5 ankle injury caused Prescott to miss the remainder of the season, the veteran had thrown for 1,856 passing yards, 9 touchdown passes, and punched in 3 rushing TDs as well. He was the No.1 ranked quarterback at 27.1 fantasy points per game, and while the Cowboys hope to get more balanced on offense, Prescott is primed for a big season. The weapons on the outside (Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb), combined with what should be an improved Ezekiel Elliott, make Dak Prescott a lock for success if he can stay healthy in 2021.
5. Aaron Rodgers (Packers)
It’s hard to argue against 48 TD passes and just 5 interceptions. Rodgers also ran for three touchdowns, and his 24 fantasy points per game trailed only Josh Allen at the position. I’m not buying any of the Rodgers leaving Green Bay talk, and even if he does, he will likely go to a team with a better set of wideouts. Aaron Rodgers might not be as flash as the others, but he produces weekly.
