Week 2 NFL Preseason News!
Week Two of the NFL preseason is here. Some kid reporter asked Coach Bellichick about his thoughts on fantasy football. He says fantasy football doesn’t mean anything to me. He won’t be playing fantasy football anytime soon and does not care about fantasy football. And he doesn’t give a damn about the Dolphins tampering with the GOAT, aka Tom Brady. Goodell lowered the hammer on the fish by stripping them of 1st and 3rd round picks, fining them $1.5 million, and suspending owner Stephen M. Ross. The Cleveland Browns are a $#!T show right now. They traded away the only quarterback to get them a playoff win in 16 years. Their new quarterback is looking at a year-long suspension because Goodell didn’t like the six-game suspension that he received from Judge Sue Robinson. And Kareem Hunt wants out. If they trade him, that’s good news for Nick Chubb owners. Chiefs safety Justin Reid Nails a 65 Yard Field Goal during Chiefs Training Camp. That’s 6 points in my fantasy league. Colts LB Darius Leonard is now Shaquille Leonard. Some Colts players say that Matt Ryan is a jerk. The Cardinals removed the stipulation clause in Kyler Murray‘s contract that he needed four hours of film study per week because reasons. Tyreek Hill compares the Dolphins to Waffle House. “Just like Waffle House, everyone’s open 24 hours, dog.”

NFL Fantasy Football News 2022 – Weeks 3
Football is officially here. The Las Vegas Raiders will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2022 Hall of Fame Game at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, Aug. 4, during Enshrinement Week. The game will be aired on NBC.
The Trey Lance era has begun in San Francisco. Coach Shanahan says, “We have moved on to Trey.” So Jimmy G will probably end up with the New York Giants. Julio Jones wants a Super Bowl ring, and he has a new home because he signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. The seven-time Pro Bowler is giving 45-year-old Tom Brady another weapon in Tampa. Seattle running back Chris Carson has retired due to a neck injury. Speaking of Seattle, D.K. Metcalf got paid! The Seahawks WR is signing a 3-yr, $72M extension that includes $58.2M guaranteed. And down the road in San Francisco, Deebo Samuel also had a Brinks truck backed up into his driveway. So the 49ers gave their WR/RB a 3-year $73.5 million extension. Finally, Deshaun Watson has been suspended for 6 games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

NFL training camps started yesterday. We are glad to be back for our 21st year in business. Please order your kits asap as UPS has a shortage of drivers, and gas prices are through the roof, so what used to take 3 days to ship is now 4-5 days.
Kyler Murray got paid $230.5 Million by the Arizona Cardinals. He will make $45 million per year. That’s more in one year than the entire Oakland A’s roster. That’s the baseball team that drafted him in 2018. The Ravens should offer Lamarr Jackson the exact same deal. It looks like Gronk really is retired because the Bucs signed TE Kyle Rudolph. Davante Adams called Derek Carr a Hall of Famer. Jimmy G is throwing again, and it seems like he will be a NY Giant. Speaking of the G-Men, they got some new uniforms this year. So did the Eagles, Falcons, Panthers, Bengals, Cowboys, and Saints. The Bears will have alternate orange helmets, and the Texans will have alternate red helmets. The Patriots will bring back the classic white throwback helmet with Pat Patriot hiking the ball. Antonio Brown went from being the best WR in the NFL to the butt of jokes on Twitter after a video of him rapping at music festivals went viral.

Ja’Marr Chase is ranked 18th WR in Madden 23. Who are the 17 ahead of him? Zach Wilson likes his mom’s friend, and his ex-girlfriend is now dating his former teammate and best friend. Do kickers ever deserve to be first-round NFL draft picks? Pt. 2
In 1978 the St.Louis Cardinals drafted Steve Little in the first round and 15th overall. He was a two-time All-American kicker and punter at the University of Arkansas. In 1977, he tied the NCAA record with a 67-yard field goal against Texas. He got a lot of hype, and the possibility of him kicking and punting in the pros is what got him drafted so high. Unfortunately, he was a dreadful kicker, making less than half of his attempts, and he was a below-average punter. Due to poor play and off-the-field issues, the Cardinals released him six games into his third season. Things only got worse for Steve. Just hours after being cut, he was critically injured and paralyzed in the crash of his sports car during a rainstorm. He died at the age of 43 in a hospice. Not worthy of a first-round draft pick.
In 1979 the New Orleans Saints drafted Russell Erxleben in the first-round and 11th overall. He was a three-time All-American kicker at the University of Texas. And just like Steve Little, he also tied the NCAA record with a 67-yard field goal against Rice University. He was dubbed The Million Dollar Kicker due to his first-round status. The Saints were hoping he would be their kicker and punter. Unfortunately, Russell pulled his hamstring in the second game of his rookie season and missed the rest of the season. He had more kicking problems into his second season, and the Saints made him strictly a punter. Russell was a top 10 punter for the next five years. In 1987 he tried out with the Lions, but he got cut. His life after football was filled with scams, Ponzi schemes, wire fraud, money laundering, and prison time. He was not worthy of a first-round draft pick.
Twenty years later, another team would choose a kicker in the first round of the NFL draft. In 2000, the Oakland Raiders selected Florida St. kicker Sebastian Janikowski with the 17th overall pick. He had a powerful leg and would consistently boot the ball on kick-offs through the uprights. Urban legend has it that he once kicked an 82-yard field goal in practice while in high school. He won the Lou Groza award twice, which goes to the nation’s best kicker. Unfortunately, Janikowski had some off-the-field issues, like getting into barroom brawls and trying to bribe a cop. And when he was a member of the Raiders, he was arrested on drug charges. He was eventually acquitted of all these charges. He was the 27th ranked kicker in his rookie year, making only 68.8% of his field goals. Things would get better. Seabass played 17 years with the Raiders leading the team as their all-time leading scorer. He holds all kinds of records for them, including a 63-yard field goal against the Broncos on Monday Night Football. He tied the NFL record that Tom Dempsey of the Saints held at the time. He played his final season for the Seahawks. He was a good fantasy kicker but not worthy of being a first-round draft choice. His lifetime field goal percentage is 80.4%. That’s not even top 50 all-time.
It seems like these kickers have a lot of off-the-field issues. It probably stems from the money they get as a first-round draft choice. However, some of the best kickers are late-round draft picks or free agents.

DO KICKERS EVER DESERVE TO BE FIRST-ROUND NFL DRAFT PICKS? PT.1
There hasn’t been a kicker chosen in the first round in 20 years, but it has happened. In fantasy football, kickers are a dime a dozen. They usually get drafted in the last round of fantasy football drafts. Some guys won’t waste a draft pick on one and do roto kicker off the waiver wire every week. A YouTube video by KTO was talking about this. I grew up in The Bay Area, so I remember when Al Davis and the Raiders drafted Sebastian Janikowski with the 17th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.
The first NFL draft was in 1936, and for the next 29 years, not a single kicker or punter was drafted in the first 2 rounds. Then, everything changed in 1966 because of a guy named Pete Gogolack. He was a 12th-round pick in the AFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Back then, everybody kicked straight ahead. He changed the game for kickers with his unique soccer-style kicking. This style was unheard of, but it worked as he was an AFL All-Star in 1965 and 2x AFL Champion in 1964 and 1965. He would leave for the rival N.Y. Giants in 1966. He had a great career with the G-Men and is in their Ring of Honor.
Pete had a younger brother named Charlie, who set 7 NCAA kicking records at Princeton with the same unique soccer kicking style. Due to his brother’s dominance and all the hype he got in college, the Washington Redskins took a chance on him. He was selected in the 1st round 6th overall in the 1966 NFL Draft. He played against his brother in his rookie campaign, and they scored a combined 14 extra points. That’s a record. He had a solid rookie year missed most of his second year, and flamed out in his third year. He was a bust, and Washington cut him. He played three more years for the Patriots. Not worthy of a first-round pick.
In 1973 the Raiders drafted punter Ray Guy from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was drafted in the 1st round with the 23rd overall pick. Punters have no relevance in fantasy football. Ray Guy was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2014 on August 2, 2014. He also has the nation’s best punter award named after him. He was worthy of a first-round pick.

NFL Draft 2022 RECAP! WINNERS AND LOSERS
The NFL Draft from Las Vegas is in the books. The first five picks were all defensive players. The most exciting position is wide receiver. Six of the first eighteen draft picks were wide receivers. Three in a row from 10 through 12. Two significant trades involving veteran wideouts. A.J. Brown gets traded from the Titans to the Eagles, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown gets traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Arizona Cardinals. Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken in the first round, and the first running back didn’t get chosen until the second round.
You want to be a winner, be a winner, you want to be a loser, be a loser. The choice is up to you. Thorton Melon said that to his son in the comedy Back to School. There were definitely some winners and losers this weekend so let’s break it down.
Winners: NEW YORK JETS
The Jets drafted cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner at No. 4 overall and Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson at No. 10. Then they traded back into the first round to select Florida State pass-rusher Jermaine Johnson. The experts had him in the top 10. The Jets drafted three top 10 players on Day 1!
Loser: The Rookie Quarterbacks
I don’t play dynasty football, so rookie QBs don’t mean much to me. Mac Jones was a solid backup as a rookie in 2021. The Pittsburgh Steelers took Kenny Pickett in the first round with the 20th overall pick. The rest of the top quarterbacks weren’t drafted until the third round. Desmond Ridder went to the Atlanta Falcons. Malik Willis went to the Tennessee Titans, and then Matt Corral was picked by the Carolina Panthers.
Winner: A.J. BROWN
The Titans traded the star wide receiver to the Philadelphia Eagles and he got a four-year, $100 million deal that includes $57 million guaranteed! And he gets an upgrade at QB from Ryan Tannehill to Jalen Hurts. So he’s going to have a good fantasy football season.
Losers: Ryan Tannehill and Baker Mayfield
Tannehill loses his WR1 in A.J. Brown to the Eagles, but then they insult the man by drafting the guy who will eventually replace him in Malik Willis. Baker will still get his guaranteed $19 million from the Browns, but he may not have a place to call home. The Seahawks didn’t trade a 4th round pick for him, as was speculated, and the Panthers used their third-round choice on Matt Corral instead of trading for Bake. So where is he going to film his Progressive commercials?
Winners: The University of Georgia
The National Champion Bulldogs had five defensive players drafted in the first round, including No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker. That’s a new record. Additionally, 15 players from Georgia were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. That is also an NFL draft record for 7 rounds. The Texas Longhorns hold the record with 17 players drafted in the 1984 NFL draft, but that had 12 rounds. Former Bulldog Jermaine Johnson was taken in the first round by the New York Jets. He was on the Georgia football team in 2019 and 2020 before transferring to Florida St.in 2021.
Losers: Texas Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns were shut out of the NFL draft for the first time since 2014. Not a single player was drafted during the seven-round event. Former longhorns RB Keaontay Ingram was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the 6th round after playing the 2021 season at USC.
Winners: Punters
You aren’t a real football player if your name isn’t on the fantasy football player labels. Of course, punters are irrelevant in fantasy football, but four kids got drafted this weekend, so good for them.
I found a diamond in the rough last year when I drafted Ja’Marr Chase in the 6th round of my fantasy football draft. However, I’m sure there will be a few impactful rookies this year.

DO NOT DRAFT These Wide Receivers In 2022 Fantasy Football!
I enjoy listening to The Fantasy Endgame on YouTube, and they were talking about six wide receivers to avoid drafting in 2022. I agree with them because the draft costs are too high, and there are some that you’ve never wanted to draft. For me, it’s always been Sammy Watkins. Unfortunately, I had two of the wide receivers on my squad last season. Terry McLaurin and Robert Woods. These guys were target monsters the year before, so I took Woods instead of Cooper Kupp, and the guy who drafted Kupp ran away with the league. So don’t get drunk at your fantasy football draft party and take one of these guys.
- D.J. Moore of the Carolina Panthers. Every year he’s stuck with terrible quarterbacks. Is it going to be Darnold, or will they trade for Baker Mayfield or draft Kenny Pickett? But he gets drafted around the third round every year, no matter how bad he is. And we’re talking fantasy bad. In the real world, 1,000 yards is good, but 4 TDS every year isn’t going to cut the mustard. He’s a WR3 at best.
- DeVante Parker says he chose to be traded to the New England Patriots. He knew his time was up in Miami as soon as the Dolphins traded for All-Pro WR Tyreek Hill. Louisville’s former 1st round pick had his best season in 2019 when he caught 72 balls for 1,202 yards and 9 TDS. His six other seasons have been lackluster. He will be just another guy in the rotation with Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne, and Nelson Agholor.
- Is Carson Wentz enough of an upgrade over Taylor Heineke to make Terry McLaurin an every-week must-start type wide receiver? Most people don’t think so, and I agree. I had Terry last year, and every week was painful just waiting for him to have a monster game. He had 1,053 receiving yards and 5 TDS. A WR that I drafted in the 16th round named Amon-Ra St. Brown put up similar numbers with 912 yards and 5 TDs
- Robert Woods got traded to the Tennessee Titans. He got by because of his effectiveness in that Rams offense, and now he’s going to the Titans, a team that is run first with Derrick Henry. I’ve drafted Bobby Tree the past two seasons, but he won’t even be on my cheat sheet list this year.
- Did Chase Claypool of the Pittsburgh Steelers get an upgrade at QB? Did he go from dead arm Ben Roethlisberger to no arm Mitch Trubisky? Last year Big Ben could not get the ball downfield on those deep throws. Even when Chase Claypool was open, it was underthrown or just not there where he could catch the ball. I don’t see how that changes with Mitch Trubisky.
- Hunter Renfrow of the Las Vegas Raiders had an excellent year with 1,038 yards and 9 TDs, but that was due to Henry Ruggs going to prison and TE Darren Waller being injured most of the year. So they acquired Davontae Adams from the Green Bay Packers, who is now the new number 1 option, and a healthy Waller will be number 2.

Do Not Draft These Rookie in Dynasty Fantasy Football!!
The NFL draft is this Thursday, and lots of rookies will be drafted. I don’t know much about dynasty football, but I watched a YouTube video by Fantasy Stock Exchange, and he said that these five players are overrated in the dynasty football mock drafts.
- Wide Receiver, Christian Watson from North Dakota State, is an elite athlete and had a great Senior Bowl and draft combine. But being an elite athlete doesn’t always correlate to high fantasy football production. He’s projected to be a Top 50 pick in fantasy football drafts. The knock-on Christian is that he has terrible hands and doesn’t run good routes.
- Wide Receiver, George Pickens from Georgia, is expected to be a Top 10 player in dynasty drafts and will be chosen in the first round. He tore his ACL in March 2021. Many people had him rated as the number one overall WR in this draft class. He’s a one-dimensional player with good size at 6’3″ and a good athlete who ran a 4.47 40-yard dash. He’s stiff and can’t run horizontal routes.
- Kenny Pickett is the most overrated Quarterback and is a five-year red-shirt senior who finally had one break-out season. He was a low recruit coming out of high school and will be 24 years old when he gets drafted into the NFL. However, WR Jordan Addison made him look good and helped boost Pickett’s draft stock.
- Running Back, Rachaad White from Arizona State, is the 18th overall pick in dynasty drafts. The scouts say that he has average speed and not great instincts. Many people do not consider him an NFL-caliber workhorse running back. He’s more of a special teams caliber player.
- Running Back, Zamir White from Georgia, is the consensus 19 overall player in dynasty leagues. He should be drafted in the 3rd round of rookie drafts. Zamir is big, physical, and fast with a 4.40 40-yard dash time, but he is the worst running back since 2016 in yards per attempt. In addition, receiving and playing on 3rd downs is non-existent and isn’t very dynamic.

5 Top Fantasy Football Running Backss to Avoid in 2022
I enjoy listening to The Fantasy Football Counselor on YouTube, and he was talking about 5 running backs to avoid drafting in 2022. Here is his list. These are good players, but they are not worth drafting in the first round.
- Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns. He was a consensus Top 5 pick, but he finished 13th among running backs even though Kareem Hunt only played eight games. PPR is the number one format in fantasy football leagues, and he doesn’t fit the bill. Hunt is better for PPR, and now they will have a new offense with a running quarterback in Deshaun Watson.
- D’Andre Swift of the Detroit Lions is ranked at number 9 in the mock drafts. When was the last time a Detroit running back finished in the Top 10? He plays in a suspect offense, and he’s been injured in his first two seasons.
- Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings changed his jersey from 33 to number 4 from his old college days at Florida St. In his first five years in the league, he has yet to play an entire season. He’ll probably end up missing four games this season. Draft Alexander Mattison in the later rounds and trade him when Cook gets hurt.
- Joe Mixon of the Cincinnati Bengals had his best stats in 2021. It was his third 1,000-yard season, but the knock on him is his durability. He’s been hurt in three of his first five seasons. So do you want to risk a first-round pick on him?
- Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers is ranked in the Top 5 of the mock drafts. He’s only played in ten games in the past two seasons. And Carolina has changed the offense from what he flourished in 2019.
