Don’t Draft these Guys!
2021 will be my 20th-year making draft boards and my 22-year playing fantasy football. And my name is etched on our championship trophy three times, so that makes me a fantasy football expert. Or maybe not, but here are some players I would not draft this year.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts. He isn’t proven yet, and he’s competing with Joe Flacco for the starting job. His wide receivers are Jalen Reagor and Heisman winner DeVonta Smith. So how can the experts call him a Top 10 QB with 6 TDs and 4 ints? 3 of those TDs came in one game vs. the Cardinals.
Running Back Austin Ekeler. I fell for the hype last year and took him with my second-round pick. He got hurt, and his backups filled in nicely for him. Even when he came back last year, they were still doing the running back by committee. He was better as a backup to Melvin Gordon.
Running Back Alvin Kamara. Without Drew Brees under center, opposing defenses are going to stack the line against him. Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill are backups. A few years ago, I was sitting at Darrel K. Royal-Memorial Stadium drinking some ice-cold ones watching this quarterback from BYU shred the Texas Longhorns defense with his legs. That QB was Taysom Hill.
Any running back on the Houston Texans. David Johnson, Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram, and Rex Burkhead. It’s their way of saying we don’t know who to effing start. I would have traded DeShaun Watson for Christian McCaffrey and 3 First-Round Picks when the Panthers offered it.
If Aaron Rogers isn’t playing for the Packers, I will stay away from wide receiver Davantae Adams and tight end Robert Tonyan. Adams will be like Mike Thomas in New Orleans without Drew Brees.
The Raiders sign Kenyan Drake to backup his former Alabama teammate Josh Jacobs. They’re just going to c*** block each other. And wide receiver Henry Ruggs is too small. I’m not drafting these guys.
Some other notable fantasy football duds are running backs Chris Carson, Joe Mixon, Tevin Coleman, James Connor, and anybody in the Miami Dolphins backfield. Don’t draft Tua Tagovailoa or Trevor Lawrence unless you’re in a dynasty league.
