Hot takes and home runs are flying this week in sports! From Teddy Bridgewater’s coaching controversy to Coach Prime’s salary cap demands, we’ve got all the drama covered.
Teddy Time-Out
Teddy Bridgewater’s coaching job at Miami Northwestern is on hold after he admitted to spending over $100K of his own money on meals, Uber rides, and recovery services for his players. The FHSAA called it “impermissible benefits,” even though Teddy says he was just trying to support an underfunded public program. He even turned himself in. In other words, he’s getting these kids ready for college, where pampering and NIL money are part of the playbook.
Coach Prime Wants a Salary Cap
Deion Sanders is calling for a college football salary cap. After his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, cashed in on NIL deals at Colorado and went pro, he says the current system is out of control. Some schools drop $25–30 million on one recruiting class.
Coach Prime wants fairness: cap the spending, stop the shady backroom deals, and make it more like the NFL. Level the playing field, or at least call it what it is: pay-to-play.
Schwar Bombs Away! NL Wins the All-Star Game
NGL (that’s Gen Z for “not gonna lie”), the All-Star Game was actually pretty fun this year. I gave up on baseball when the stat nerds took over with their exit velocities and launch angles. But the Hank Aaron tribute? Classy. And the home run derby finale? Fire. Kyle Schwarber went yard three times on three pitches, helped the NL get the dub, and took home MVP. Boom.
Gambling Trouble in Pro Sports
Malik Beasley is under federal investigation for betting on NBA games. Luis Ortiz is being looked at for suspicious pitch-by-pitch betting in MLB. No charges yet, just really bad timing (Beasley was about to sign a $42M deal).
