Carolina Panthers 2026 Fantasy Football Preview: Defending NFC South Champions, Three Primetime Games, and Tetairoa McMillan’s Breakout Year

The Carolina Panthers went from 2-15 in 2023 to NFC South champions in 2025. That is one of the fastest turnarounds in recent NFL history, built around a young quarterback, a receiver who won Offensive Rookie of the Year in his first season, and a defensive identity that kept games close enough for Bryce Young to win them. Fantasy managers have been sleeping on this team for two years. The Panthers are back in the national spotlight with three primetime games in 2026. Their most nationally televised appearances since 2016, the year after their Super Bowl run. Here is what you need to know before your draft. WCCB Charlotte

The Reigning NFC South Champions

Carolina won the division last year for the first time since 2015 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2017. The Panthers open at home in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. A matchup of the two quarterbacks drafted first overall in 2023 and 2024, Bryce Young and Caleb Williams, and close at home in Week 18 against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Dave Canales enters his third season with the team. The Panthers play home games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Yahoo!

Carolina also participated in the Hall of Fame Game on August 6 in Canton, Ohio, against the Arizona Cardinals — coinciding with former Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly’s Hall of Fame induction. That means Carolina got an extra preseason game before the regular season opener. Yahoo!

Bryce Young: Still a Question Mark

Young threw for just 3,011 yards in 2025. One of the lowest totals for any qualifying starter since 2006. He ranked 25th in total EPA per play among 29 quarterbacks with at least 300 snaps, and his 42.7 completion percentage on passes of 10-plus yards was near the bottom of the league. The Panthers won the division despite this, not because of it. Young is going as the 26th QB off the board at current ADP. Late enough to take a shot without real risk. Dave Canales built a good offensive system in Tampa Bay and is trying to replicate it in Carolina. Year three for Young is a genuine make-or-break moment. Fantasy Six Pack

Fantasy verdict: Late-round streaming option only. The upside exists if Young takes a leap, but the track record demands patience.

Tetairoa McMillan: The Real Story

The 2025 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, McMillan caught 70 passes for 1,014 yards and 7 touchdowns in his first season. A 70-1,014-7 receiving line despite playing for a below-average quarterback. McMillan finished 22nd among wide receivers in catches, 13th in yards, and tied for 11th in touchdowns. He is a 6’4″ target who has already established himself as a genuine WR1 despite Bryce Young’s limitations. If Young improves in year three, McMillan could ascend into true WR1 territory. If Young stagnates, McMillan is still a high-floor WR2 with elite target share. FantasyLife + 2

Fantasy verdict: WR2 with WR1 ceiling. Target him in the third or fourth round depending on your league format.

The Backfield Battle

Rico Dowdle left for Pittsburgh in free agency, opening the lead back role for Chuba Hubbard and 2024 second-round pick Jonathon Brooks, who has missed significant time with two ACL tears. Hubbard enters training camp as the leader after Dowdle’s departure but came off an ugly 2025 averaging just 3.8 yards per carry. Brooks represents legitimate upside if he can finally stay healthy. His range of outcomes spans from non-factor to Panthers starter and fantasy RB2. Yahoo Sports + 2

Fantasy verdict: Hubbard is a low-ceiling RB3 in PPR. Brooks is a high-upside stash in dynasty leagues. Neither is worth drafting early in redraft formats.

2026 Carolina Panthers Schedule

Carolina’s three primetime games are: Week 4 Sunday Night Football at home against the Detroit Lions (their first home SNF game in 11 years), Week 8 Thursday Night Football at Green Bay, and Week 12 Monday Night Football at Tampa Bay. The bye week falls in Week 5. The earliest a team can receive one. Carolina closes the season at home in four of five final weeks, including Week 17 against the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks and Week 18 against Atlanta. Yahoo! + 2

17 Seattle Seahawks Home Sun 1:00 PM
18 Atlanta Falcons Away TBD

Fantasy note: The Week 5 bye is painfully early. By far the worst scheduling outcome for Carolina fantasy managers. You will need solid roster depth to cover Week 5 with McMillan, Hubbard, and Young all unavailable. On the positive side, Carolina finishes at home in four of five final weeks, which could help win-total records and keep skill players in favorable game scripts late in the fantasy season.
